Overall Review: Review based on listening through Logitech X230 2.1 speakers and Sennheiser eH150 headphones. reasonable price for this level of qualityĬons: - no auto detect for front panel, must be selected in Xonar control panel (doesn't bother me, but some people might find it inconvenient) I had hesitations about buying (as well as about not buying) another Cr3a7ive card.
I agonized for weeks over which sound card to get. It does an excellent job of fooling the ear into believing you are listening to 7.1. If you're using 5.1, make sure to enable the 7.1 Virtual Speaker Shifter. The customization it offers is top notch. And the additions made by Asus improve it even further. Overall Review: Xear 3D is the best interface I have used for tweaking the surround sound field.

And I am not taking off any eggs for these cons because the card sounds amazing and the included software is incredibly useful. I am sure i will after some research, though. Speaking of front panel audio, I have yet to get mine working. Unless you knew that the card offered front panel audio connections, you would not learn it from the manual. See more in Other Thoughts ->Ĭons: As mentioned by others here, the documentation is quite sparse. It is not mentioned anywhere, but the card uses the C-Media Oxygen processor, which is the top of the line C-Media product.īesides the processor, Asus also uses a glossed over version of C-Media's Xear 3D as the software interface for the card. This card certainly blows away the onboard audio (crummy IDT which offers very little customization) but it also blows away the old ZS-2. When I built a new system, the issue continued so I chucked that card and used the onboard audio for a few months. My last card was an 4udigy ZS-2 that developed an extreme case of popping and crackling. I am using a z-5300e 5.1 setup that still delivers despite it's age. To get the best experience you will want to tweak your sound using the included software. Pros: The sound from this card is amazing, but you would not knowing by just installing the card and firing up your favorite music player.
